Business funding in the San Fernando Valley: what owners here borrow for
The Valley is a city of its own: close to two million people, a full manufacturing base, the busiest auto-repair corridor in LA and a restaurant strip that runs for miles. It is also where a lot of stacked cash advances live, because so many funders and brokers have offices in Encino and Sherman Oaks. Here is what Valley owners actually borrow for.
- Van Nuys Boulevard auto and body shops. Van Nuys Boulevard and the surrounding blocks hold one of the densest clusters of independent repair shops, body and paint shops, tire stores, transmission specialists and used-car lots in Southern California. They borrow for lifts, frame machines, paint booths and diagnostic gear, for parts inventory, and for the weeks when insurance payments on collision work lag. Equipment financing for the shop, working capital for the gaps, and consolidation when advances have piled up.
- Ventura Boulevard restaurants and professional offices. From Studio City through Sherman Oaks and Encino to Woodland Hills, Ventura Boulevard is the Valley’s main street: sushi bars and steakhouses, delis and cafes, medical and dental offices, law and accounting firms, salons and med spas. Restaurants borrow for remodels and the January drop; professional firms want a line of credit for payroll between client payments.
- Warner Center. Woodland Hills’ office and medical hub holds insurance, healthcare, financial and tech employers and the smaller firms that serve them. Working capital, lines and equipment for medical and dental groups.
- Chatsworth and Northridge manufacturing and distribution. The industrial blocks along the 118 corridor hold aerospace and defense suppliers, machine shops, electronics assemblers, packaging companies, medical device makers and distribution warehouses. Long payment terms on large purchase orders are the norm. Factoring and purchase-order financing on receivables, equipment financing for CNC and production lines, SBA 504 for buying the building.
- Sun Valley and Pacoima trades and trucking. Sun Valley’s yards and Pacoima’s industrial blocks hold trucking companies, recycling and materials businesses, concrete and paving contractors, electricians, plumbers, roofers and landscapers who work the whole region. They borrow for trucks and heavy equipment, for materials between progress payments, and for payroll on big jobs. Equipment financing, working capital and lines.
- Panorama City, North Hollywood and Canoga Park. Panorama City’s medical corridor around its hospital, the NoHo Arts District’s theaters, restaurants and creative studios, and Canoga Park’s Sherman Way retail and service strip each have their own mix of small businesses borrowing for equipment, remodels and cash-flow gaps.
Production vendors serving the Burbank and Universal lots, and the restaurants and services around CSUN in Northridge, round out the files we see most from the 818.

How it works from the Valley
Our office is at 10100 Santa Monica Blvd, Suite 100, in Century City, just south of the 405 through the Sepulveda Pass. From Sherman Oaks or Encino that is about 20 minutes without traffic; from Chatsworth or Sun Valley closer to 40. Most Valley clients never visit. Everything runs by phone, email and electronic signature.
- Three questions at /apply: amount, time in business, monthly revenue. No documents, no credit pull.
- A specialist calls the same business day. We ask what the money is for, when you need it, how your customers pay and whether you have any existing advances. Be straight about the advances; it changes which funders we call.
- Send statements. Three to four months of business bank statements as PDFs, ID and a voided check. Tax returns for larger or SBA files; a quote for equipment; payoff letters for consolidation.
- Compare offers. Side by side with total cost, term and payment. Every California offer arrives with the state’s required commercial-financing disclosure showing total cost and payment terms before you sign.
- Sign and fund. Same day to 3 days for working capital; 2 to 7 days for equipment; 45 to 90 days for SBA.
If you want to meet in person, we will come to your shop or set a time at the office.
Who qualifies in the Valley, and a word about stacked advances
The floors are the same across our panel: 6+ months in business, $15K or more a month in deposits, a 500+ credit score and a business checking account with three months of statements. Meeting them means most funders will look at the file. It is not an approval.
The Valley has a specific problem we see more than anywhere else in LA: owners carrying two, three or four daily-remittance cash advances, often sold by brokers a few blocks away on Ventura Boulevard. If that is you, you are not disqualified, but the path is different. Two positions with healthy deposits can usually move into a single weekly-payment facility. Three usually need a specialized consolidation program. Beyond that, the honest advice may be a workout with the funders rather than new money, and we will say so rather than sell you a fifth position. Read more on our consolidation page.
What does not disqualify you: a bank decline, a slow quarter, a recent equipment loan, or a 550 score with strong deposits. What does: an open bankruptcy, fewer than 6 months of statements, or more than a handful of negative-balance days each month.
Public programs in the Valley to check first
If you qualify for a public or nonprofit program and can wait, take it. Valley owners should look at these before commercial funding.
- City of Los Angeles EWDD BusinessSource Centers. Most of the Valley is inside LA City limits and covered by the city’s free coaching and microloan access, with centers serving the north and south Valley.
- Valley Economic Alliance. The Valley’s regional economic development organization, a good first stop for business assistance and referrals.
- LA Regional SBDC Network. Free advising and loan packaging through centers serving the Valley.
- CDC Small Business Finance. SBA 504 loans for buying your shop, warehouse or office building.
- LISC LA and LA County programs also reach Valley businesses, and the independent cities of Burbank and San Fernando have their own economic development offices.
Expect 30 to 120 days and bank-style paperwork. Many owners pair a public loan with a short bridge from us while it closes. The full list is on our Los Angeles business funding hub.
How Valley deals get structured
Owner had two daily-remittance advances and a bank decline. Consolidated both into one weekly-payment facility over an estimated 15 months using payoff letters and four months of statements. Daily outflow ended; owner refinanced into a term loan the next year.
Aerospace supplier adding a five-axis CNC for a new contract. Six-year equipment financing on the vendor quote, statements and one tax return, funded in six business days with the vendor paid directly. Paired with a factoring facility so the 60-day receivables from the new contract funded on shipment.
Owner needed a walk-in cooler replaced in August and cash for a dining-room refresh before the holidays. Nine-month term, weekly payments, funded the day after statements arrived. Paid off early after a strong December.
Examples are illustrative of how PMF LA structures placements; amounts, terms and approval depend on the funder and your file. Not an offer of credit.
Frequently asked questions
Can a Van Nuys auto shop with existing cash advances get funding?
Usually, yes, if there are no more than two or three positions and deposits are steady. We consolidate the advances into one weekly payment or, when deposits allow, a term loan. Send payoff letters with your statements and we will tell you which is possible. Beyond three positions, the honest answer may be a workout rather than new money.
Do you meet San Fernando Valley clients in person?
We can. Our office is in Century City, about 20 minutes from Sherman Oaks through the Sepulveda Pass without traffic. Most Valley clients handle everything by phone, email and e-sign. If you prefer a face-to-face meeting, we will come to your shop.
Is PMF LA a lender?
No. PMF LA is a commercial finance broker. We arrange funding through 20+ funding partners, show you every offer side by side, and are paid by the funder. Any fee to you is disclosed in writing before you sign.
Can a Chatsworth manufacturer finance equipment and receivables at the same time?
Yes, and it is a common structure. Equipment financing covers the machine over its useful life while a factoring facility funds invoices as parts ship. We arrange them from funders whose lien positions do not conflict and show you the combined payments against your deposits before you sign either.
Do you serve Sun Valley, Pacoima, Northridge, Canoga Park and North Hollywood?
Yes. Our funders place throughout LA County and all 50 states, and every Valley neighborhood from Sylmar to Studio City is regular territory. Trucking and trades files from Sun Valley and Pacoima are ones we know well.
How fast can a Valley business get working capital?
Same day is realistic for amounts under about $250K when statements arrive by late morning and you sign before the funder’s afternoon cutoff. Most files fund in 1 to 3 business days.
Will checking my options affect my credit?
No. The three-question check and the first call are soft inquiries. A hard pull happens only after you choose an offer and give written permission, and only from that funder.
